I-465 Construction Update: What Drivers Need to Know About This Year's Major Projects

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Transportation has released its 2025 construction schedule for the I-465 loop, and Indianapolis drivers should prepare for significant work in three major corridor segments that will create lane restrictions and detours through the fall construction season.

The largest project is the reconstruction of the I-465/I-69 interchange on the northeast quadrant of the loop, a complex multi-year project that entered its second major construction phase in March. The interchange reconstruction involves the replacement of aging bridges, the reconfiguration of ramp geometries to improve traffic flow, and the installation of continuous lighting throughout the interchange area. Lane restrictions on I-465 between Allisonville Road and Castleton Square will be in effect through at least November.

On the south side, INDOT is rehabilitating the I-465 bridge over White River between US 31 and State Road 135, requiring single-lane alternating traffic for approximately six weeks beginning in late April. Drivers are advised to use US 31 as an alternate during peak hours if possible.

Northwest Corridor

The northwest quadrant of I-465, from I-65 to US 421, is scheduled for pavement rehabilitation this summer. This work will require overnight lane closures on weeknights from 9 PM to 5 AM and occasional weekend shoulder closures. INDOT says the pavement work should be completed by Labor Day.

"We understand construction is disruptive," said INDOT Communications Director Tim Howell. "We work to minimize impacts while making necessary investments in infrastructure that will benefit Indiana drivers for decades."
